The Official Blog of Futility

The Official Blog of Futile Work

4/25/2007

Back in 2007, I registered the domain for one of my oldest websites, Me Own Blog. It's a funny story really. I got the inspiration from my son, who was eight at the time. He was always going around saying, "me own" this, and "me own" that. Finding it really adorable, I decided to name my first blog "Me Own Blog", and lo and behold that domain was available.

Since then it's evolved from Blogger to WordPress, to its latest home, Weebly.

I have for some time maintained different websites, including this one, and Me Own Blog, but I think I've decided to incorporate that site into this one, and just make it a blog page on its own. There wasn't a whole lot there, and I've really invested a lot of my time and energy into this futile work.

I may end up keeping it, or just letting my Son have the domain, and do with it what he wants. That seems only appropriate.

Without going into much more detail, I'll just share with you the original "About" page from Me Own Blog.

About Me Own Blog

This blog chronicles my journey of self-discovery and inner peace.

I am a budding photographer, a self-proclaimed poet, an aspiring author, and a starving artist.

Please join me as I delve into the nooks and crannies of my psyche, on this quest to know – ME.

Okay, I can only go so far with that garbage before I crack-up.

Seriously though, this blog, Me Own Blog, has taken on several forms, since it all began in 2007. First, I took the old “junk-mail regurgitation” approach, where I re-posted everything that landed in my inbox. I soon realized this was a futile effort given that the Internet was full of this rubbish, and I couldn’t very well reproduce the entire Internet, now could I?

Next, I tried my hand at re-posting entire articles of interest from other sources, which led me to wonder if I might be violating copyright laws. Fearing a lawsuit from Righthaven, I again decided this approach was insufficient. In hindsight, my fear of Righthaven was humorously unfounded; however, my respect for copyright holders and their work was sincere, and I didn’t want to violate that trust.

I was all but ready to abandon this blog when I had an epiphany. The real problem was that I fell into the trap of thinking I had to post something EVERYDAY. When I decided that I would post only when I wanted to, I was relieved to find this was good enough for me, as it will be for you (yes, I’m talking to you, my one faithful, Manitoban follower, eh).

So as you can clearly see, I don’t post here very often, but when I do, you know it’s gonna be good.

Thanks for reading.
