On Thursday, September 1, 2016, SpaceX was conducting a static fire test of their Falcon 9 rocket, with the Amos-6 satellite payload on-board. Just before the test was to begin, an explosion occurred causing the complete loss of the rocket and satellite.
An anomaly appearing in the video just prior to the explosion has led some to speculate that a UFO was the cause of the explosion. In a literal sense, a UFO (Unidentified Flying Object) is an accurate label; however, I make no assumption as to what the anomaly is, or whether it had anything to do with the explosion.
This video, provided by US Launch Report, has a frame rate of 29 frames per second. It shows an object darting across the field of view in only 8 frames, starting just prior to the explosion, approximately 1 minute 11 seconds into the video. That either makes this "UFO" astonishingly fast, or astonishingly close to the camera, like an insect or something flying in front of the lens.
View the video and still frame shots for yourself, and decide what you think it may be.
