Minutes before the bombs blew up in Boston, Jeff Bauman looked into the eyes of the man who is suspected of trying to kill him.

Just before 3 p.m. Monday, Bauman was waiting among the crowd for his girlfriend to cross the finish line at the Boston Marathon. A man wearing a cap, sunglasses and a black jacket over a hooded sweatshirt looked at Jeff, 27, and dropped a bag at his feet, his brother, Chris Bauman, said in an interview.

Two and a half minutes later, the bag exploded, tearing Jeff’s legs apart. A picture of him in a wheelchair, bloodied and ashen, was broadcast around the world as he was rushed to Boston Medical Center. He lost both legs below the knee.

“He woke up under so much drugs, asked for a paper and pen and wrote, ‘bag, saw the guy, looked right at me,’ ” Chris Bauman said Thursday.

While in intensive care, Jeff Bauman gave the FBI a description of the man he saw, his brother said. FBI officials declined to comment on specific tips. The bureau released video images of two suspects Thursday.

Editor's observations: What's wrong here?

This story is an excellent example of how the media is actively deceiving us.

So what's your take-away from this story?
  • Jeff Bauman an unsuspecting victim of the Boston Marathon bombing, saw the man who planted the bomb which incidentally took both his legs in the explosion.

Wow, it's a miracle he's still alive after loosing both legs due to the bombing! But what you don't see from the above (cropped) image is that Jeff Bauman has a prosthetic limb and already missing one leg, possibly the other one too, but it's less obvious.

Here's the image above, uncropped.
Picture
how is this guy not passed out from the trauma?
No, that's not a bone, it's just a prosthetic limb, but why is it so bloody if it's not his real leg? Okay, maybe the blood is from his other leg. It looks in pretty bad shape.

Here's another image of Jeff Bauman being rushed away in a wheelchair.

After you look at the enlarged image above, it's easy to tell that Jeff Bauman's left leg (right) has a prosthetic limb, but his right leg (left) looks in horrible shape. Surely that's were all the blood must be coming from.

So let's just agree that his left leg has a prosthetic limb, which I think this picture makes even more clear.
Picture
why does everyone else look relatively unharmed when Jeff Bauman's legs are missing?
And let's also agree that this story is misleading, at best, to imply that Jeff Bauman lost both legs in the explosion.

Okay, I'll concede that his right leg looks pretty bad, and if indeed he did have a right leg before the explosion, he's missing it now. But what's wrong with this picture?

  • If his right leg sustained so much damage, why is he holding on the the left leg, as we can clearly see from both images? And why is the tourniquet on his left leg when his right leg looks to be in worse shape?
  • If his leg(s) were blown off, why aren't they somewhere in the picture with him lying on the ground?
  • If the blast was bad enough to blow both of Jeff Bauman's legs off, why does the red-head lying on her side, at the bottom of the above picture, look practically untouched?
  • Again, if the explosion was bad enough to blow both of Jeff Bauman's legs off, why does the man lying on his back, at the top of the above picture, only have a few tears in his jeans?

I had no idea that "pressure cooker" bombs could be so selective.
