I’m thinking they are going to tell me it’s a crank anytime. I don’t believe he could get entangled in something like that with so much promise he had in his future.” - See more at: http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/10/danvers_slay_suspect_s_uncle_he_s_a_perfect_kid#sthash.igbZXqwC.dpuf They are saying … that he confessed to doing it. I don’t believe it,” said Chism Blaine. “I’m wondering, did they badger him into saying it.” Chism Blaine expressed condolences for the deceased teacher’s family, and said his nephew had no history of mental illness or behavior problems. He expressed concern for his nephew’s safety and conditions at the Essex County jail and disbelief he’s being treated as an adult in the courts. He said he expects to travel to the Bay State soon to get in touch with his nephew and his family, whom he has not spoken to since Chism was arrested Wednesday. “I can’t imagine they are going to try him as an adult, at 14, he’s a kid,” Chism Blaine said. “I was thinking that’s impossible for them to do that.” He added he last saw his nephew and his brother, Philip’s father, Stacy Chism, 38, and Philip’s mother, Diane Chism, 34, in Clarksville, Tenn., in the summer of 2012. He said he shot hoops with his nephew and they spoke about his dream to be a professional soccer player. Classmates of Philip Chism described him as a star on the junior varsity soccer team, and a smart student who was taking advanced placement classes. A student told the Herald on the afternoon of the murder, Ritzer asked Chism to stay after class for additional help on his Algebra 1 studies because the class had an upcoming test. Chism Blaine said he’s been trying to get in touch with his brother this week who he believes lives in Florida. He said when he saw his nephew last, Philip’s mother and father were present but he was unsure if they were a couple because “I don’t ask their personal business.” Court documents show Diane Chism filed for divorce from Stacy Chism in March 2001, citing “prior physical and emotional abuse as well as alcohol abuse.” The couple reconciled several months later, and the divorce was never finalized. Stacy Chism served as a private first class in the Tennessee Army National Guard from 1994 to 2002, according to U.S. Army officials. - See more at: http://bostonherald.com/news_opinion/local_coverage/2013/10/danvers_slay_suspect_s_uncle_he_s_a_perfect_kid#sthash.igbZXqwC.dpuf 14 year old Murder Suspect has Clarksville roots (local Fox News Clarksville, TN)http://www.fox17.com/news/features/top-stories/stories/14-year-old-murder-suspect-has-clarksville-roots-john-dunn-17147.shtml
Excerpt: CLARKSVILLE, TN — A 14 year old boy accused of murdering his high school math teacher in Danvers, Massachusetts has ties to Clarksville. Philip Chism recently moved to Massachusetts after living in Clarksville for much of his life. Last year he attended Rossview Middle School and he starred on his Montgomery County Soccer Association soccer team. People in Clarksville say he was a quiet, smart and athletic teenager. “Great soccer player. Probably the main reason we won the league championship last year,” says former coach Jandro Herrera. Herrera coached Chism over the last two seasons. He remembers the polite 14 year old, whom other kids looked up to. “I’m sure any of his teammates would say the same thing, that he was just the nicest kid on the team, probably,” says Herrera. Philip Chism lived in a Clarksville apartment. We’re told his father was in the military. Another former coach, Mark Nolan, says Philip was a relatively quiet kid who never caused any trouble. Jandro Herrera says the crime has left him speechless. “Always the most respectful kid that I’ve ever had around…yes sir, no sir,” says Herrera. Chism completed middle school at Rossview in the spring and moved to Massachusetts over the summer. He is now charged as an adult and being held without bond. His former soccer coach keeps wondering what happened. “I want to see what else there is. I want the whole story to come out before people really cast a lot of judgment on the kid,” says Herrera.
